Les Arts Décoratifs Library reopens

Researchers, art history students, professional designers and decorators sorely missed the exceptional Musée des Arts Décoratifs Library. This incomparable reference source has been closed since 1996 due to museum repairs, but the famous Rue de Rivoli library will be opening its doors to the public again on December 10th.

In their restoration, architects Antoine Dacbert and Daniel Kahane kept the tables and chairs dating from 1904 and reproduced the past splendour of the 100-place reading room.  120,000 printed volumes, books, exhibition and sales catalogues, 1,500 French and foreign magazines, and 17,000 precious works from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries can now be accessed through computers.

Unique worldwide, the famous Jules Maciet collection of 5,000 folio albums, including thousands of engravings, photographs and documents of all kinds thematically filed, can be consulted by the reading room public. Providing an endless source of inspiration and information to everyone and anyone free of charge has always been and remains the library’s purpose.
