As the most natural of public transport allies, the urban bicycle is an absolute “must” during fine weather as an alternative, educational and eco-friendly mode of transport for exploring the city and its 200 km of cycle lanes ! •Let’s go… Head to one of the Roue Libre centres in Paris, where our experienced staff are on hand to greet you. Present some proof of identity, leave a cheque as a deposit, then off you go on a comfortable bike that’s street-legal and in perfect condition. The choice of rental period is up to you. Possibility of guided tours. •Where to hire your bike ? Maison Roue Libre : Forum des Halles. Open daily, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Other sites : weekends and bank holidays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Weekend rates : from 3 €. •Useful tip Information and reservations : 0810 44 15 34, daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. By boat An ever-present Parisian backdrop, the river Seine is one of the city’s most vibrant thoroughfares.Batobus provides an original means of transport during the main tourist season, when it offers seven stops with easy access to the city’s most prestigious sites. Stops : Champs-Elysées, Tour Eiffel, Trocadéro, Musée-d’Orsay, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Notre-Dame, Hôtel-de-Ville, Louvre. Fares : 1 stop : 2,50 €. One-day pass (adult) : 10€. By rollerblade Each week, hordes of devotees take part in an amazing procession across Paris that’s open to all. You, too, can join the fun on either Friday evenings (staying at 10 p.m., place Raoul-d’Autry, 14th arrondissement) or Sunday afternoons (depart 2.30 a.m., place de la Bastille, 11th arrondissement). By taxi Paris has over 15 000 taxis, but be aware that demand for them on Friday and Saturday evenings is very heavy ! Fares : pick-up : 2 €. Minimum fare :5€. Surcharge per suitcase (+ 5 kg) : 0,90 €. •Useful tip Do not hail the driver unless his taxi is available : if it is, the white light on the roof will be illuminated. It is best to ask for a receipt at the end of the journey.
